Read moreNorthumberland County Council intends to reinvest £1.9m and further the coverage of superfast broadband across Northumberland. This £1.9m has been achieved due to the high levels of early take up across Northumberland of fibre broadband services and is part of a contractual gainshare repayment from BT.
The purpose of this public consultation is, prior to reinvestment of public funds, to confirm the areas which do not have Next Generation Access (NGA) broadband infrastructure delivering at least 30mbps; or where there are no plans to provide such infrastructure over the next three years. These are described as ‘white NGA areas’. This is to enable all interested stakeholders – the public, businesses and telecommunications providers – to comment on the proposed white NGA areas before further coverage is committed.
The consultation documentation includes a report, a map of current, known and planned coverage over the next three years and a list of postcodes whereby specific addresses can be researched.
The consultation will run for one calendar month and close at 5pm on 20th June 2016.
A series of drop in events are taking place to meet the team and discuss the consultation. These events are as follows:
Wednesday 25th May, 3pm – 7pm Dr Syntax, New Ridley Village, NE43 7RG
Tuesday 31st May, 2pm – 4pm St James Church, Alnwick, NE66 1JW
Wednesday 8th June, 12 noon – 2pm Hexham Trinity Methodist Church, Hexham, NE46 3LS
Wednesday 8th June, 6pm – 8pm Pegswood Fire Station, Pegswood, NE61 6TW
