Better Broadband Subsidy Scheme
The Government has committed to giving access to 2Mbps download speed to every premises in the UK.
As part of this commitment, Northumberland County Council, in conjunction with Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), is making available the option of a subsidised broadband installation for eligible premises. This provides support towards the cost of equipment and installation of a broadband connection so that a basic broadband service can be purchased for a first year cost of no more than £400 (taking account of any up front costs and the 12 month service charges). The subsidised installation can also be used to access higher cost packages with higher speeds or greater monthly data caps.
Please note: We are also running this scheme on behalf of eligible areas with the Newcastle City Council boundary.
You will only be eligible if your premises does not already have access to speeds of more than 2Mbps.
If you are eligible for a subsidised installation you will be able to choose a service from any of the providers that are part of the scheme, each of which will be offering a variety of packages based around the amount of data you need and the speed of the connection. Successful applicants will be sent a list of approved providers along with the voucher code, you can select a package from any of those listed suppliers.
The Better Broadband Scheme has been extended for a further year until 31st December 2019, ensuring that a subsidised basic broadband installation remains available to eligible applicants.
In support of this extension, BDUK is taking the opportunity to improve the scheme’s processes and functionality in order to deliver a more efficient and effective service.
The existing application process closed at midday on 31st December 2018 and, following a brief pause to implement the necessary changes, BDUK aim to re-launch the Better Broadband Voucher Scheme in January 2019.
